Summary: Create designs using CAD models and develop technical drawings to direct manufacturing and assembly processes, catering to diverse customer needs. As a Design Engineer, you will ensure designs meet customer specifications and demands of modern manufacturing methods, while adhering to industry standards and company guidelines. You will work collaboratively with sales and manufacturing teams to deliver customer-focused and manufacturable solutions. This role provides foundational experience across various industries, offering insight into limitless applications and the entire design process from concept to production.
Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Produce detailed drawings showing all necessary tolerances and dimensions, required by each manufacturing operation.
- Maintain drawings, product structure, and design standards in accordance with modern methods and procedures.
- Review project details with Technical Sales to design parts and create a customer approval drawing, as necessary
- Utilize 3D CAD modeling software to draft component and assembly design records
- Calculate forces applied by automation and/ or work-holding applications
- Obtain purchased components required for affected manufacturing or assembly and review incoming inspection protocols for respective components
- Provide design records and technical specifications to manufacturing department
- Provide technical assistance as required to manufacture and assemble affected work-orders
- May provide improvement suggestions to manufacturing and/ or assembly processes
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of general engineering design principles with specific emphasis toward the following:
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Force application and calculations
- Knowledge of document control procedures affecting design records
- Creative problem solving required to provide SCHUNK customers customized engineering solutions
Education and/or Experience: Four year college or University degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Automation and or Clamping technology highly desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports, correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
