ABOUT STRESCON LIMITED

Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces and the New England region of the United States. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollowcore slabs, precast pile, and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the structural analysis and design of precast concrete structures like parking garages and apartment buildings as well as precast concrete elements of all types both prestressed and normally reinforced.
As a member of the Engineering team, the ideal candidate must be comfortable interacting with a diverse workforce including Drafters, Engineers, Project Managers, Salespeople, Estimators, Production Supervisors, and Field Erectors. This position requires high attention to detail, reading specifications, architectural, structural, and steel fabricator drawings to ensure the precast design meets contract requirements. In general, this is a position where guidelines, structure, and established procedures must be followed closely.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensed Professional Engineer, or EIT eligible to obtain professional license in Canada
  • Proficient computer skills in Structural Software (ETABS) is a requirement
  • Familiarity with Tekla 3d modelling software would be an asset
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering
  • A strong course background in Structural Design including Concrete, Steel and Welding is an advantage
  • Course work in Prestressed Concrete Design is preferable
  • Working knowledge of Building Codes, CSA Codes (Bridges, Concrete, Precast, and Welding)
  • Ability to communicate well with other Departments, Architects, Engineers and Contractors
  • Eligibility to pursue a professional license for Maine, Massachusetts and other states as required

Responsibilities
  • Review all project documents including architectural, structural drawings and specifications
  • Attend job meetings, communicate with external consultants & architects to develop project
  • Prepare design calculations to meet codes, project specifications and summarize design to drafters
  • Monitor the preparation of drawings and bill of materials, ensuring they are on schedule
  • Check that production and erection drawings meet the design and apply your Engineering seal
  • Work with production and erection supervisors, as necessary, to resolve issues
  • Visit the plant and job sites, as necessary, to ensure design requirements are met
