Description
TableCheck, Japan's leading restaurant reservation management platform, is seeking a Design Engineer to join our team. This hybrid role combines the craft of interface design with the rigor of fullstack engineering. As a Design Engineer at TableCheck, you’ll help shape and build cohesive, user-centered experiences by translating design intent into high-quality, production-ready code. You’ll contribute across the entire product lifecycle — from early exploration and prototyping, to building UI components and workflows, and building, shipping and maintaining features for our customers. We operate in an English-first, remote-first environment where clear communication and thoughtful documentation are essential. Japanese fluency is not required, but familiarity with hospitality workflows or restaurant systems is a big plus. You'll thrive here if you care about user experience, software engineering and the intersection of design systems, engineering and solving customer problems. Responsibilities Shape the end-to-end customer experience across TableCheck products—from early concepts through launch and beyond Create intuitive, beautiful interfaces that help restaurants run smoothly and delight their guests Drive design decisions through research, user feedback, and deep understanding of the hospitality industry Run design critiques and help build a culture where honest feedback makes everyone better Master tools like Figma, Miro, Adobe Suite (and whatever's next) to bring ideas to life quickly Build interactive prototypes and AI-powered application demos to test ideas before committing to full development Jump into code when it makes sense—whether that's refining a frontend component, tweaking an API, or shipping a small feature yourself Work alongside engineers using React, Node.js, TypeScript, and Ruby on Rails (you don't need to be an expert in all of these, but comfort with code helps you move fast) Partner with product managers, engineers, operations, and sales to translate business needs into experiences that actually work Must Have 3+ years designing and/or building software products Proven track record working as a UI and UX designer A portfolio showing real work that shipped to real users Strong visual design sense—you know what looks good and why The rare ability to think like both a designer and an engineer (understanding constraints makes you better at both) Enthusiasm for using AI tools to accelerate design work, prototype faster, and explore new possibilities Clear communication style and comfort giving/receiving feedback Experience maintaining products in production, not just launching them Nice to Have Startup experience (you're comfortable with ambiguity and wearing multiple hats) Knowledge of the restaurant or hospitality industry Familiarity with Japanese culture and business practices B2B and B2C product experience
Responsibilities
