PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • New and existing product design includes requirements analysis, design, validation, documentation & drawings, implementation, including ongoing manufacturing and sales support.
  • Collect, interpret and action feedback to create and improve the product offering while maintaining the KingFisher brand.
  • Hull and structural design of fabricated parts with related details and drawings.
  • Mechanical systems design, electrical systems support as required.
  • Integration of marine power systems on new and existing hulls.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design market leading components, subsystems, and products for the marine industry using SolidWorks and Draftsight.
  • Prepare design documentation for new/existing components - drawings, engineering specifications, standard operating procedures, and test reports.
  • Root cause and remedy product related production, quality, and supply issues as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs with focus on utilizing the ECR/ECN process.
  • Analyze, develop, and implement appropriate design and/or manufacturing changes to improve product and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers to develop/evaluate and implement outsourced components.
  • Create and manage Bills of Materials.
  • Ensure all boat models meet the necessary compliance requirements from NMMA, ABYC, Transport Canada and U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Complete and process all compliance documentation as required.
  • Maintain/stay aware of trends, changes, and updates to applicable industry regulatory bodies.
  • Lead boat performance validation activities and provide suggestions for improvement for all new and updated models.
  • Maintain performance data dashboard.
  • Develop project plans, coordinate activities and report on project status.
  • Support company annual Hi-5 goals.
  • Always follow WorkSafeBC and KingFisher Boats safety policies and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Engineering Degree or Technologist Diploma.
  • 7+ years related experience in a product engineering and design.
  • 3+ years related experience in a marine design role (alternatively, other recreational product design will be considered)
  • Project management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks, PDM, Draftsight, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience and proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), an asset.
  • Practical knowledge of production processes and shop equipment including sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, and casting.
  • Ability to collaborate with production staff to interpret issues and create effective solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communication with manufacturing personnel, customers, and suppliers.
  • Experience with ERP systems. (Infor Cloudsuite Industrial, an asset)
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.
  • Working knowledge with industry standards and safety regulations such as ABYC, Transport Canada, NMMA and US Coast Guard is a strong asset.
