Toro U.K. Limited manufacturer of premium Lawnmowers and Turf Equipment. Established in 1946 as Hayter Limited the company has been actively promoting and distributing Garden and Grounds Care machinery for over 75 years.
We are currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our busy Engineering Team here at Toro in Spellbrook.

JOB PURPOSE:

Engineering design and analysis of a new product or revised product. Reviews test and customer data, determines the cause of failures and develops appropriate solutions. Executes a project plan.
Design Engineer: In the Consumer group working on petrol and battery powered walk power mowers and riding mowers. Experience with petrol or battery powered Consumer products is very desirable.
General requirements: May be designing sheet metal parts, weldments, castings, roto-molded plastics and vacuum formed plastics. Must be comfortable with a spanner as there will be occasions where they will be in the workshop. A personal interest in working on cars, motorcycles, etc. is a plus. Creo or equivalent is a must.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and coordinate the development of new product concepts, new products, or improvements to existing products. Creates design that satisfies the product requirements as outlined in the product specification and resolves design problems.
• Performs engineering analysis to predict the behaviour of the proposed designs. Analysis tools may include closed form solutions, or electronic simulation programs. Computing tools may be from calculators to computers.
• Develops product design plans including budgets and schedules. Executes to plan and assists in control of project.
• Consults with other product design engineers, marketing, research engineers or mechanical designers on proposed product designs. May be responsible for work direction of designers, drafters, contract/consulting personnel, and others.
• Works with vendors to finalize designs and implements, in hardware, the needs of the product application. Develops specifications and working agreements with vendors. Helps assure that the vendor meets the requirements of the design.
• Performs functions as required by established engineering procedures including project requests through engineering release and change management procedures.
• Assures that designs meet the requirements of the customer as defined by safety and any applicable industry or Toro standards.
• Actively participates in the development and understanding of customer requirements through direct contact with marketing, customers, service, manufacturing and distribution.
• Coordinates work with the product development team members such as but not exclusively: Shop, Test, Drafting, CAE, Quality, Marketing, Purchasing, Plants, Advanced Manufacturing, Sales, Technical Publications, Administration, and Management. Conducts and participates in regular project team meetings.
• Responsible for drawing package, bill of material, and product specification. Responsible for the building of prototypes.
• Works with test engineers and technicians to develop tests, which simulate the requirements of the customer. Evaluates test data and develops design revisions to solve problems.
• Keeps abreast of new technological developments, components, concepts, materials, manufacturing processes, or competitive environment, which would affect the design or design process.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
