Job Description AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Engineer - UG Tunnel to join its team for metro rail projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and reviewing underground tunnel structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical, structural, and construction experts, to deliver high-quality underground tunnel designs. Job Duties: Develop detailed designs for underground tunnels, including structural and geotechnical aspects. Perform advanced engineering calculations and analyses to ensure tunnel stability and safety. Design tunnel linings, support systems, and excavation sequences. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications. Incorporate safety, durability, and sustainability considerations into the design process. Work closely with geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of designs. Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to address design-related queries and concerns. Review and validate designs prepared by junior engineers or external consultants. Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of design deliverables Prepare detailed design reports, drawings, and specifications. Maintain accurate records of design iterations, calculations, and approvals. Identify potential design challenges and propose innovative solutions to address them. Assess and mitigate risks associated with underground tunneling, such as ground settlement, water ingress, and structural failures. Provide technical support during the construction phase, including resolving design-related issues on-site. Conduct site visits to ensure designs are implemented as intended. Qualifications Postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. Additional Information A minimum of 15 years of total experience in engineering roles. At least 5 years of direct experience in metro rail projects, with a focus on underground tunnel design. Proven expertise in designing tunnels for metro systems, including NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method), TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), or cut-and-cover methods.
