Design Manager - Data Centres This role sits at the centre of design, delivery and technical coordination. You’ll work closely with our Director, Design and Product, and partner with consultants, contractors, vendors, customer technical teams and internal stakeholders to take data centre design from post-GMP through to delivery and handover. It’s a role for someone who understands complex building services design and can bring structure, judgement and clarity to fast-moving, high-accountability projects. What you’ll be doing: You’ll lead the design management process across critical services including mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fire, controls and integrated systems. This includes: Managing multidisciplinary consultants and specialist vendors Coordinating design interfaces across development, delivery, operations and commissioning Driving design quality, governance and technical compliance Translating complex services issues into clear recommendations and decisions Supporting procurement, scope definition, value optimisation and commercial outcomes Ensuring design intent is carried through to commissioning, handover and operational readiness What we’re looking for: We’re looking for someone with strong experience in data centre, mission critical, infrastructure or complex building developments. Advanced knowledge of data centre building services design, including critical mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fire protection, controls and integrated systems requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services or related Engineering discipline; postgraduate qualification in design management, project management or business is advantageous. Strong understanding of hyperscale and colocation services design requirements, basis of design, resilience strategies, redundancy concepts, commissioning expectations and operational considerations. Broad understanding of services design development and project delivery across concept, detailed design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and handover. Strong knowledge of services design management, consultant administration, design programme control, BIM coordination and construction interface management. Commercial understanding of building services design, consultant scopes, fee management, value optimisation and whole-of-life asset performance. Working knowledge of Australian codes and standards, engineering governance, risk management, compliance obligations and authority approval processes relevant to data centre services design. Significant experience in data centre, mission critical, infrastructure or complex building developments, including leadership across services design management and delivery phases, with particular reference to the Melbourne and Victorian AHJ requirements. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary building services consultants, contractors, vendors and technical stakeholders across complex projects or portfolio programs. Experience in services design governance, consultant performance management, technical design reviews, commissioning coordination and management of complex stakeholder environments. Strong experience in RFQ/RFP processes, consultant procurement, scope development, budget input, vendor coordination and commercial negotiations for services packages. Experience presenting technical recommendations, design reviews and project updates to senior leaders, customers or governance forums. Responsibilities
Lead the design management process for critical data centre services, including mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems. Coordinate between multidisciplinary consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design intent is realized through to operational handover.
