Role description: We are seeking a Design Manager to lead and manage the design delivery of complex rail and transit projects from concept through construction. This role will coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated, high-quality solutions, serve as the main contact for clients and stakeholders on design matters, and oversee design schedules, budgets, and resources to meet project milestones. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, supporting proposals and technical reviews, maintaining design quality assurance, and mentoring junior engineers to foster team development and knowledge sharing. This role sits in our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA). We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today's mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world's growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods. Role accountabilities: Lead and manage the design delivery of complex rail and transit projects from concept through detailed design and construction. Coordinate across disciplines including civil, structural, electrical, systems, and architectural teams to ensure integrated and high-quality design solutions. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and internal teams on design-related matters. Oversee design schedules, budgets, and resource planning to meet project milestones. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Support proposal development, technical reviews, and design quality assurance processes. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing. Qualifications & Experience: Minimum 12 years of experience in rail and transit infrastructure design, preferably within Canada. Proven track record managing design teams on large-scale transit projects (e.g., LRT, subway). Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline; Master's degree is an asset. P.Eng. license in Ontario is preferred; candidates must be eligible to obtain licensure. Strong understanding of Canadian transit standards, procurement models (e.g., P3), and stakeholder environments. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $178,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
