Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the design of plastic injected molded parts and their associated tooling
  • Solid understanding of regulations, optics, electronics, simulations, and manufacturing of automotive lighting products
  • Expert in Catia or NX
  • Experience with PML and requirements management software
  • MS office proficiency required

  • Analysis and problem solving skills
  • Computer skills – proficiency using standard business software
  • Written and verbal communication and presentation skills

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, or a related discipline, plus eight (8) years of progressive experience in product development in automotive lighting parts manufacturing OR
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, design, or related discipline, plus nine to eleven (9-11) years of progressive experience in product development in automotive lighting parts manufacturing

Responsibilities
  • Manage the design and development project of exterior lighting products from initial concept to production
  • Define system requirements and necessary system configurations, taking into account functional requirements, physical properties, legal, customer, and internal requirements
  • Ensure compliance and regulatory requirements through robust product design
  • Creates and maintains a design schedule for the activities of each domain in the project (design, optics, electronics, simulations, software) that align with the overall project schedule
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines, cost, and quality targets in your daily work and plan appropriate contingency measures in the event of possible backlogs or risk and implement them as a team
  • Lead the project team in identifying, investigating, and resolving design concerns/problems as early as possible in the development process
  • Identifies and communicates design issues back to section manager and or department manger
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies in the market and automotive lighting industry trends
  • Support development of 2D and 3D data using CAD software for product design output
  • Integrate new technologies into product design
  • Coordinate all design domains efforts in predevelopment projects, request for quotations (RFQ), and request for information (RFI)
  • Support sales by facilitating technical information for accurately estimating cost associated with products
  • Facilitate delivery of technical information to the customer, other company depts., and within design
  • Negotiate solutions to technical problems with the customer and other company depts., and within design
  • Manage, support, and provide leadership to the project ream
  • Ensure compliance to quality management system requirements
  • Educate and train design engineers in technical and non-technical requirements pertaining to their daily roles
  • Conduct feasibility studies and engineering analyses for the new concepts
  • Provide design and development expertise for timely support on new projects, implementation of new technologies, and all other assigned projects
  • Mentor and coach junior level engineers to raise skill level of the project teamPerforms all other duties as assigned
