Job Title Design Safety Expert Job Description Your role Vanderlande is the global market leader in Airport, Parcel Solutions, and sorting systems for Warehouse Solutions. Working within the King Salman Airport Engineering team, you will have opportunities and potential to join a wide and diverse range of projects and will contribute to sales and engineering projects on design safety of material handling systems. In this role you will work closely with the team of Design Safety Experts guiding and supporting projects for increasing the maturity of design safety compliance through design reviews and site inspections of mechanical, electromechanical and controls systems. You will provide professional expert skills and knowledge and effectively communicate, technical recommendations to key stakeholders that will include Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Design Engineers, Project Managers, HSEQ teams and Customers while maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. Your department The department you will be working in will be based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia primarily focusing on the King Salman projects, but also be able to support on projects across the Airports segment across the EMEA LATAM region (Europe, Middle East, Africa & Latin America). The Design Safety team has strong collaborative links across the customer centre and centrally offering expertise in Design Safety Compliance. Your responsibilities and activities will include: Support a safe working environment: Championing, encouraging and leading by example to deliver a safety-first culture. Through effective collaboration: utilise expert skills and knowledge to guide multiple project teams, internal and external suppliers to deliver safe system design solutions, with the ability to deal with ambiguity to make and own risk-based decisions. Oversee Project Deliverables: Identifying design safety uncertainty through effective risk analysis and propose mitigations as well as executing site inspections. Champion Design Safety: for the lifecycle of the equipment, during the tendering and sales phase through to design, build, installation, commissioning, deployment, operational use, decommissioning and disposal for project team members and end users. Support Team Growth and Development: Continuously improve and grow your own and teams technical and professional development, sharing lessons learned across projects and products. Ensure Technical Compliance and Readiness: Able to identify non-compliance through audit of the system design from start of pre bid phase, through Engineering and handover phases to provide a Declaration of Conformance to the Saudi Arabian regulations. Identify the gap between the Vanderlande product, compliant to CE regulations (European Standards) and the applicable local Saudi Arabian regulations. Work with the project team to deliver a system, compliant to Saudi Arabian regulations. Provide Regular Updates to Management: Communicate effectively with project and management teams on status and performance, highlighting potential risks and solutions. Be a trusted partner: with Vanderlande’s customers through effective, collaborative working relationships. Have an ability to discuss and advise customers and suppliers on machinery safety and legislative compliance to ensure that customers’ expectations are met or exceeded. Personal characteristics: Confident, outgoing and personable team player. Proactive hands-on approach, searches for information instead of waiting. Good attention to detail with the ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records. Takes ownership of their responsibilities for projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Adept at negotiation, diplomacy and conflict resolution. Education and Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. BSc/MSc in Engineering field Understanding the Saudi Arabian legislation (SASO, ISO, IEC). Understanding of the machinery directive (2006/42/EC) and experience in the application of safety standards such as EN 619; ISO 13849-1/2; ISO 13850, ISO 14122-1 till -4; IEC 60204-1) Understanding of OSHA, ANSI, UL and NFPA regulation Qualified and certified in machine safety CMSE (Certified Machine Safety Expert) or equivalent. Understanding of Occupational safety (US, European, local regulations) Evidence of working in the area of machine safety. Proven track record in material handling systems strongly preferred. Experience of airport baggage handling systems (note training will be given in these disciplines). Proven track record with customer interaction by the means of presenting, workshops etc. strongly preferred. Aspire. Grow. Achieve.
