Description

Blue Core Craft, supporting Freeman Boatworks, is seeking a highly skilled CAD Designer with extensive experience in SolidWorks assemblies to join our team in a fast-paced marine manufacturing environment. This role will focus on creating and managing detailed 3D assemblies and 2D technical drawings, ensuring manufacturability, and collaborating closely with engineering and production teams. The ideal candidate has a strong background in marine or product design, with the technical ability to support CNC operations when needed, including preparing CAD files for equipment such as the Zund Cutter, AXYZ Router, Laser Engraver, and ABM Quilter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in CAD design, with a strong focus on SolidWorks assemblies.
  • Proven ability to manage large, complex assemblies with multiple subcomponents.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and managing 2D technical assembly drawings.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC cutting, routing, quilting, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and marine/industrial specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the marine, automotive, or upholstery industries.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming/nesting software.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and product testing.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage complex SolidWorks assemblies for boat seating and components.
  • Create and manage accurate 2D technical drawings and assembly documentation to support production.
  • Generate 3D models, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) that align with production requirements.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and quality standards.
  • Collaboration
  • Work directly with engineers, production, and upholstery teams to translate design concepts into manufacturable solutions.
  • Provide design input and support during prototyping and first-article reviews.
  • CNC & File Preparation
  • Prepare and optimize CAD files for CNC equipment (Zund Cutter, AXYZ Router, Laser Engraver, ABM Quilter).
  • Efficiently nest and format files to maximize material usage and production efficiency.
  • Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Review prototypes and finished parts to confirm alignment with design intent.
  • Identify and implement design and process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Documentation & Standards
  • Maintain organized design libraries, revision histories, and part databases.
  • Create, manage, and update technical drawings, cut files, and assembly instructions.
