JOB SUMMARY

The Designer is responsible for the production and oversight of drawings from markups and verbal direction provided by engineers. Work is reviewed by supervisor on occasion; however, the Designer generally works independently and collaboratively with engineers. The Designer works closely with supervisor to ensure adherence to established standards and procedures and assists in the improvement and implementation of the CAD/BIM processes and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting or a closely related field
  • 5 or more years of related experience
  • Ability to read and understand markups and plan documents
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work from verbal direction with minimal detailed guidance
  • Willing to learn new programs as required and to remain current on existing programs
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism and feedback
  • Ability to collaborate with others across the organization in multiple locations to gather data, complete plan documents, brainstorm ideas, and implement improvements
  • Ability to identify essential structural and building components and communicate missing information and/or questionable markups to engineers
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam or other pdf software
  • Ability and willingness to mentor Drafter-level employees
Responsibilities
  • Adopts positive attitude of accountability by providing reliable, constructable, affordable, and timely solutions (RCAT) resulting in Providence being the Engineer of Choice.
  • Review job and communicate estimated amount of time needed to complete tasks.
  • Communicate with engineer actual time spent versus scheduled time.
  • Manage weekly task list using company-approved software.
  • Communicate with engineers if tasks are not received within an established timeframe.
  • Coordinate additional task list items with engineer to advance schedule as needed.
  • Notify supervisor if additional tasks needed after coordination with engineers on the weekly task list.
  • Work alongside engineers to produce drawings with limited direction.
  • Backcheck produced work against markup(s).
  • Produce drawing backgrounds for engineers.
  • Communicate drawing discrepancies and project concerns to the lead engineer throughout the project design process.
  • Flag dimensional errors and other constructability issues.
  • Identify discrepancies between external consultant drawings and internal drawings.
  • Produce rough sketches of details for engineers with minimal direction.
  • Assume drafting team lead role on projects as needed and assigned.
  • Delegate work to Drafters and review to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure adherence to established CAD and Revit standards, including sheet order, detail order, and appropriate detail usage.
  • Research project-specific product specifications and design requirements
  • Attend internal project meetings.
  • Attend external project meetings with clients, consultants, or other members of team.
  • Accompany engineer, project manager, or other members of team on site visits.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Support Drafters by answering questions on established CAD and Revit standards.
  • Participate in continuing education webinars and education sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
