DESCRIPTION

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Designer to work in our Design and Drafting department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus with every other Friday off.
You will apply multi-disciplined designing skills and techniques to prepare new computer-generated designs and drawing changes to support multi-disciplined company engineering activities. You will report to the manager of the Design and Drafting department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience, an advanced degree in a relevant field, or 8 years of other education and/or relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience. an advanced degree and 2 years of experience, or 11 years of other education and/or relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with designing and drafting Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems.
  • NICET Level 3 certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Responsibilities
  • Participate and lead the design team to develop complete design and/or CAD models compatible with applicable codes and standards and pre-established cost, scope, and schedule dimensions for purposes of fabrication, installation, construction or modification of nuclear facilities, structures, systems and/or components (SSCs).
  • Provide drafting checking support for assigned group’s experiment drawings, including precision mechanical, electrical, piping and instruments drawings (P&IDs), etc.
  • Participate and lead in the selection of nuclear components, specifications, and acceptance criteria to be communicated via associated engineering documentation to support the end use.
  • Check drawings ensuring Fit, Form, and Function for Drawings of all complexity.
  • Provide design guidance to Engineering and supporting organizations.
  • Direct the work efforts of drafting personnel to achieve cost-effective engineering project cost management.
  • Train/mentor peers in the application of multi-disciplined design development skills and techniques.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
