JOB SUMMARY:

The Designing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving equipment and systems, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, pump, and mixer systems, using in-house design expertise to keep costs down while supporting current operations across four locations with a dip tank, paint mixing shop, I-joist/dimensional coating line, and panel coating line, insulated rim board line, and various equipment as needed while driving the company’s further expansion. This role collaborates closely with the maintenance team to ensure designs are reliable, maintainable, scalable, and cost-effective, while supporting Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development, process improvements, and critical spare parts strategies. The Designing Engineer applies engineering principles and basic LEAN concepts to optimize equipment performance, enhance operational efficiency, and enable growth, ensuring alignment with safety standards and company expansion goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., PE) preferred.
3-5 years of engineering experience in equipment design, preferably in a manufacturing environment with multi-location operations.
Strong technical expertise in designing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, pump, mixer, and specialized systems, including those used in dip tank, paint mixing, I-joist/dimensional coating line, and panel coating line operations.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and engineering analysis tools to support in-house design.
Experience collaborating with maintenance teams and supporting SOP development.
Knowledge of basic LEAN principles (e.g., 5S, waste reduction) and process improvement methodologies.
Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design scalable, cost-effective solutions and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with OHS standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols for manufacturing environments.
Ability to travel between three locations and potential new sites as needed, with flexible hours to support project timelines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs, stand, walk, and inspect equipment in various environments, including areas with dip tank, paint mixing, I-joist/dimensional coating line, and panel coating line operations.
Comfortable working in office settings and on-site at manufacturing facilities.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Strong project management experience is critical for this role. Must be able to provide examples of how you impacted a project by utilizing strong management skills to keep vendors within budget and timelines.
Experience designing equipment for coating lines, paint mixing, or similar industrial processes with an emphasis on in-house cost savings.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and spare parts strategies to support cost-effective maintenance.
Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies for facility expansions with a focus on internal design capabilities.
Experience supporting multi-site operations and scalability in manufacturing environments while controlling costs.
