United Floral Inc. is one of Western Canada’s leading full-service wholesalers of fresh-cut flowers, floral supplies, and industry education. Established in 2015 through the reorganization of United Flower Growers, our roots date back to 1963, bringing nearly 60 years of experience in the wholesale floral industry. Based in Burnaby, British Columbia, we distribute products to customers across Western Canada.
Position Overview
We are recruiting for a Desktop Support Specialist to join our IT team in Burnaby. As a key member of the team, the Desktop Support Specialist serves as the first point of contact for employees seeking technical assistance. This role manages first-line user support and helpdesk operations and reports directly to the System Administrator and IT Manager. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent problem-solving abilities, strong documentation and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Duties consistent with the position include, but are not limited to:
· First-Line Support & Ticket Management: Serve as the first point of contact for employees seeking technical assistance via helpdesk tickets, phone, or email. Manage and resolve IT tickets in a timely manner while maintaining accurate documentation and resolution notes.
· Cross-Platform Hardware & Peripheral Management: Troubleshoot, configure, and maintain corporate equipment, including Windows and macOS desktop/laptop systems, label and laser printers, scanners, multi-function devices, and standard IT peripheral hardware.
· Microsoft 365 & Collaboration Support: Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 productivity suites, enterprise email environments, client-side Outlook profiles, and Teams Room collaboration hardware.
· Network Connectivity & Physical Infrastructure: Diagnose wired/wireless network connection issues, VPN access failures, and perform physical cabling, patch panel patching, and port connectivity tasks.
· Workstation Provisioning & Lifecycle (Onboarding/Offboarding): Manage the end-to-end IT onboarding and offboarding process, including workstation imaging and physical hardware deployment for PC and Mac environments, and support planned office relocations.
· Identity & Access Management: Provision and manage user accounts, reset passwords, resolve authentication and access issues, and perform baseline directory services administration.
· Application & Browser Diagnostics: Assist with enterprise software installations, standard configuration tasks, web browser security alerts, and SSL certificate-related troubleshooting.
· IT Asset Management & Documentation: Maintain accurate IT equipment inventory and hardware asset-tracking records, and build an internal knowledge base containing technical documentation for staff training on new technologies.
· Security Triage & Escalation: Identify and report basic security threats (e.g., phishing and suspicious emails) and escalate complex infrastructure or system-level incidents to higher-tier administration teams.
· User Training & Communication: Serve as a technical bridge for end-users by conducting group training sessions, creating clear internal knowledge-base documentation, and guiding staff on new technologies and security best practices. Strong technical troubleshooting is the core requirement; good presentation and communication skills are a big plus.
Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience working in a technical help desk / desktop support environment or in a similar role.
· Post-secondary education in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
· Hands-on troubleshooting expertise with both Windows and macOS operating systems.
· Familiarity with Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and user account administration.
· Strong knowledge of hardware components, networking basics (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN), and printer support.
· Resourcefulness, strong troubleshooting, and problem-solving attitude with the ability to work under pressure.
· Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce detailed technical documentation.
· Strong aptitude for learning new technical skills, adapting to a dynamic environment, and working both independently and collaboratively.
Bonus Qualifications
· CompTIA A+ certification (or equivalent industry certifications) will be considered a strong asset.
· Experience with cloud platforms or remote management tools.
