KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of information system technologies normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of data processing and end-user computing principles.
  • Fundamental TCP/IP networking knowledge and the interaction between Microsoft desktops and servers.
  • Knowledge of information systems, client-server and workstation/PC technologies (hardware, software and connectivity), basic telecommunications and e-business.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to field telephone calls all day long and remain composed and customer focused.

  • Several years (3-5) experience with IBM or compatible personal computers, proficient with Windows desktop products.
  • Several years (3-5) experience in an IT environment.
  • Few years (1-3) experience installing operating systems and network cards.

Responsibilities
  • Provides first and second level telephone or on-site support to resolve problems with or assist in the use of desktop products and services.
  • Dispatches contractors and other personnel in response to customer trouble calls.
  • Monitors the trouble ticket system.
  • Provides consulting and training to internal staff and company customers. Prepares instructional material on hardware and software enhancements and teaches, guides, and informs internal staff and company customers regarding use.
  • Consults with consultants and customers, then recommends and configures the best desktop solutions for the customer’s needs. Participates in identifying and evaluating new desktop hardware and software products. Provides input on the selection and adoption of new standards and products for desktop hardware and software.
  • Proposes or develops procedures, processes and innovative ways to improve the efficiency and economics of the desktop function.
  • Provides backup support to the IT Infrastructure & Operations Division and their desktop, server and network systems.
  • Assists with desktop hardware and software installations and relocations.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
