With operations in Auckland and Christchurch, we pride ourselves on being responsive, reliable and solutions-focused for our customers. We are currently looking for a Despatcher / Driver Trainer to join our team based in Penrose. This is a varied role that combines operational planning, driver development and hands-on support when required. The Role This position plays a key role in the day-to-day running of our Penrose transport operation. A significant portion of the role involves despatching a fleet of 12 trucks (Class 2–5) and coordinating with our team of drivers to ensure customer deliveries run smoothly and efficiently. Working alongside the Operations Supervisor, you will help plan and schedule work, allocate trucks and drivers, and respond quickly to changes during the day. The despatch component typically takes around 4–5 hours per day, although this will vary depending on operational needs. The remainder of the role focuses on developing and supporting our driving team. You will work closely with drivers to build capability across areas such as: Safe driving practices Load restraint and load planning Customer service expectations Compliance and safety standards This includes both informal coaching and formal driver assessments, including pre-employment and ongoing driver evaluations. Providing clear, constructive feedback will be an important part of helping our drivers perform at their best. From time to time, if driver availability impacts the daily plan, you will also jump in the truck and assist with driving duties to ensure deliveries are completed. About You This role would suit someone who: Has solid experience as a Class 4 or Class 5 driver Understands transport operations and scheduling Enjoys working with and developing people Stays calm under pressure and can adjust plans quickly Communicates well with drivers, customers and the operations team Wants to step into a leadership and coaching role This could be an excellent opportunity for an experienced driver looking to take the next step, or for someone who already has experience in despatch or driver training and wants to bring those skills to a supportive team environment.
