Description

Position Title: Development & Communications Specialist
Reports To: Director of Development & Strategic Impact
Position Status: Full-Time, Requires flexible evening and weekend hours
Position Summary: Creates and implements efforts to increase visibility, engage the community, and raise funds to support United Way of the Mohawk Valley through development, marketing and volunteer opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


    • Bachelor’s Degree plus two years of experience in both event planning and marketing, or Associates Degree plus three years of experience in both event planning and marketing preferred. BS in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or related field preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Strong organization and time management skills with ability to coordinate and track multiple projects at time.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, internal and external.
    • Demonstrated command of digital marketing and functions.
    • Ability to analyze and exercise sound judgement and problem solving.
    • Ability to engage and motivate others.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
    • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs preferred.
    • Knowledge of online marketing and analytics platforms including Constant Contact, Canva, Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Drupal preferred.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Position requires local travel. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. Vehicle insurance and up to date registration is required. Travel mileage is reimbursable at the approved state rate.
    • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
    • Ability to work evening and weekend hours including occasional Sundays.

    Responsibilities

    Primarily responsible for managing social media accounts and email marketing efforts.

    • Social Media: Includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
    • Create and implement social media schedule and calendar.
    • Create social media posts/stories/ads, including images, graphics, copy.
    • Reply to social media direct messages and engage in post comments and account tags.

    Primarily responsible for media relations including

    • Creating and sharing all media advisories, press releases, and press kits.
    • Updating news page of website and photo galleries regularly.
    • Building relationships with key contacts within local media outlets.
    • Securing interviews and media attention to promote United Way’s work.
    • Tracking and reporting on media mentions through TV, radio, print and web
