POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Development Construction Technologist is responsible for administration and oversight of construction works on City Lands by the private development industry, ensuring that quality construction work is achieved to standard in compliance with City bylaw requirements and good engineering practices.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years’ experience of field construction inspection in the areas of asphalt, concrete, road works, sewer and storm systems.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • Proficient in computer use, including modelling software, spreadsheets, and word processing, etc.
  • Proficient in estimating, measuring and recording quantities of materials.
  • Proficient in daily recording of construction activities in clear and concise manner.
  • Proficient in survey layout.
  • Knowledge of Provincial/Federal regulations and guidelines affecting municipal construction activities.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tender documents and specifications and conduct field survey layout work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable tact, courtesy and diplomacy in dealing with members of the public, other agencies and staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High degree of initiative and sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all of the duties outlined in a safe manner following established City policies and procedures; WorkSafeBC
  • Possess working knowledge of City of Cranbrook Contract and Specifications for Municipal Services, MMCD standards, and general municipal engineering construction practices and procedures.
