Description
Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers, and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world-leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water, and shipping. As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build our careers too. About the job We are building new capabilities in CO₂ capture to support the maritime industry’s transition toward net-zero emissions. This role sits at the center of that effort, focused on developing and validating carbon capture solutions for fired boiler systems, a key emissions source in offshore and marine applications. As our technical expert, you will take ownership of developing a chemical CO₂ capture process from early-stage concept through pilot validation and toward industrial application. This is not a support role; you will be one of the few people in this space internally, expected to bring depth, direction, and technical judgment in an area where we are still building competence. You will work across R&D, engineering, and commercial teams, translating scientific principles into practical solutions that can be deployed in real-world systems. Key responsibilities: Act as the primary technical expert for chemical CO₂ capture processes Develop and optimize CO₂ capture solutions based on potassium carbonate systems Evaluate the impact of physical chemistry, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena on process performance Analyze and apply scientific literature to guide technology development Support process modeling, pilot testing, and validation activities Interpret experimental data and translate findings into engineering improvements Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, performance, and operability Collaborate with cross-functional teams to move from development to industrial implementation Contribute to technical positioning of solutions toward external stakeholders and clients The main site of Power & Offshore is in Rauma, Finland, and Finland is the preferred location of this position, however the CO2 specialist can also be based at any of our Nordic sites. The role includes approximately 10–20 days of international travel per year. Who are you You operate effectively in environments where structure is limited and direction is not always clearly defined, taking ownership of complex and ambiguous challenges without waiting to be guided. Rather than relying on established methods, you approach problems from first principles, using a structured and analytical mindset to turn uncertainty into clear, actionable paths forward. At the same time, you are able to translate complex technical concepts into practical insights that others can understand and act on. What ultimately drives you is applying your expertise to real-world challenges, with a strong focus on developing solutions that create tangible impact beyond theory. What you know You bring deep technical expertise in chemistry and chemical processes, with the ability to move from theory to application in complex engineering environments. We are looking for: Master’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Process Engineering, or related field Strong expertise in physical chemistry and chemical process fundamentals Solid understanding of gas absorption, chemical equilibria, kinetics, mass transfer, and heat transfer Experience in R&D, product development, or advanced engineering environments Proven experience contributing to or leading technology development projects Ability to translate scientific concepts into practical engineering solutions Strong capability to read, assess, and apply scientific and technical literature Fluency in English For more information, please contact Mika Jäpölä, General Manager, Technology at Mika.Japola@alfalaval.com or Talent Acquisition Partner, Raquel Herndon on raquel.herndon@alfalaval.com We are conducting a continuous review of received applications. We do not accept applications via email, due to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Please send your application no later than April 19th, 2026. We will remove the job advert from our website as soon as we have found the right candidate, so don't wait too long! Our commitment to integrity We care about diversity, inclusion, and equity in our recruitment processes. We also believe behavioral traits can provide important insights into a candidate's fit to a role. To help us achieve this we apply Pymetrics assessments, and upon application you will be invited to play the assessment games. #LI-RH1 Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers and society.
