Project:
Western Health is seeking an experienced midwife for a full time, 12-month fixed term role as the Women’s & Children’s Maternity Services Development Lead, based at the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Sunshine Campus. The role involves leading and managing maternity improvement projects, developing innovative programs, and ensuring service delivery aligns with community needs.
The role will be required to work collaboratively across Women’s & Children’s Services and more broadly across Western Health, to ensure service delivery is relevant to the needs of our community to improve population health.

The role will involve the following key components:

  • Develop and implement innovative maternity programs and improvement initiatives that meet the needs of the community
  • Monitor and evaluate new and existing services to inform plans for ongoing service delivery
  • To modify the Models of Care and Operational Plans to support the requirements for Maternity Services at Western Health
  • Provide leadership and support in Improvement Science across Maternity Services to ensure approaches remain contemporary, focused and based on the best available evidence.

Previous and ongoing projects include planning and implementation of:

  • Childbirth Education Program
  • Preterm Birth Prevention Clinic and other preterm birth prevention strategies
  • Continuity of Carer Model in Antenatal Clinic
  • Complex Care Clinic for women with substance use, severe mental health and/or incarceration
  • Maternity Antenatal Postnatal Service (MAPs)

This role is temporary full-time and predominately based at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Sunshine Campus.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be a Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
  • Have at least 5 years of clinical and operational maternity experience.
  • Have completed course/training in improvement methodology or working towards
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with stakeholders.
  • Approach collaboration with compassion and respect, ensuring effective coordination.
  • Lead change initiatives with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Forge strategic partnerships to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong consultation and negotiation abilities.
  • Have experience in service planning, model of care development, and implementation.
  • Be skilled in project planning, reporting, and ensuring quality and safety in maternity.
  • Manage your time effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have experience in delivering women’s and/or children’s projects.
  • Have relevant experience in project management.
  • Have knowledge of business, systems and process redesign.
