Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

The Development Manager is a versatile and proactive development professional who plays a leadership role managing the operations of HSSA’s fast-paced Development Office, which is responsible for raising nearly $4M in lifesaving revenue each year. Reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with the Development Coordinator and Chief Development and Marketing Officer, this position manages multiple concurrent high-priority projects to help ensure HSSA meets its donation revenue goals.
In this role, your project-management skills and your ability to lead through influence across teams will help increase the Development Office’s efficacy. You’ll provide critical operational and organizational support to core fundraising activities such as annual giving, planned giving, grant writing, donor stewardship and recognition, and special events. You’ll play a leadership role in the migration from HSSA’s current CRM to the new CRM. You’ll become a subject matter expert in HSSA’s new CRM, training other staff members and volunteers on its use and ensuring data fidelity.
At the same time you provide this critical internal support to HSSA’s Development Office, you’ll deploy your passion for external donor relations to your direct interactions with HSSA supporters. You’ll triage emails and phone calls from donors, you’ll lead donor tours, and you’ll plan and execute donor events to help HSSA raise funding that directly and positively impacts pets and people in our community. Throughout it all, you’ll provide and model exceptional front-line customer service to donors at all levels, as well as to colleagues, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
This is a primarily on-site position, with flexibility for offsite meetings with stakeholders or occasional remote work to meet emergent personal needs. Occasional evening and weekend work required to accommodate special events and seasonal giving spikes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide organizational and operational support for HSSA’s fundraising program including donor stewardship, donor recognition, planned giving, annual giving, grant writing, and special events.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Finance Office to assist with processing realized estate gifts.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and optimize systems that ensure the successful and effective implementation of HSSA’s development plan.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development and CDMO, develop and monitor key performance indicators and reports.
  • Manage HSSA’s donor database conversion by vetting prospective contractors, collaborating across teams, making recommendations to the leadership team, and managing the migration project.
  • Support moves management system for the Director of Development and CDMO through portfolio management, accurate tracking of donor interactions, and accountability for donor stewardship.
  • Create, update, and maintain policies and procedures for all development donor database systems, in collaboration with the Development Coordinator.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors to support the development team goals as described in the annual development plan, including tracking and payment of invoices.
  • Complete donor prospect research as requested.
  • Support the planning and execution of special events, donor tours, and other donor-facing activities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to donors at all giving levels over the phone, in writing and in-person.
  • Train and manage development volunteers.
  • Serve as back-up Development Coordinator by completing gift entry and generating acknowledgments.
  • Produce and run reports, mail lists and compile data for Development and Finance teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.
