Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Development & Communications, the Development Manager is responsible for leading efforts to increase fundraising revenue through our annual programs, third-party fundraising, and signature events. This role will proactively secure and lead sales and fundraising meetings, presenting opportunities to prospective donors, sponsors, and partners.
The Development Manager will provide leadership and oversight to the Development Specialist, who manages programs including the PAW monthly giving program, planned giving, 50/50 lottery, holiday campaign, and community appeals.
Additionally, the Development Manager serves as the primary relationship manager for mid-level donors (capital campaign), and both major and mid-level donors (annual programs), providing tailored stewardship to strengthen relationships, donor engagement, and contributions. This role is instrumental in enhancing the donor experience at GTHS by providing exceptional stewardship.
POSITION SCHEDULE: Permanent, full-time (40 Hours weekly), hybrid work environment requiring the ability to work from home as well as on-site at GTHS office locations, and regular in-person meetings in the community. Occasional off-site, evenings, weekends, and after-hours work will be required. Regular travel within the South Georgian Bay area is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University/College degree, in Business/Non-Profit Management/ Events Management/Fundraising or equivalent combination of education and leadership experience.
  • CFRE designation, or working towards, an asset.
  • 5+ years of fundraising cultivation (lead generation) and donor stewardship required with demonstrated program success metrics. Proven experience in successfully securing major and mid-level gifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, cultivate and steward strong relationships with donors.
  • 5+ years of event planning experience leading successful large-scale community events.
  • Self-motivated, high energy, results oriented with the drive to exceed expectations.
  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated skills with MS Office products, Excel and CRM database skills will be ideal.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, verbal communication and listening skills; detail oriented, strong organizational, research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, tact, diplomacy, integrity, and creativity.
  • Proven proposal and presentation skills.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft office, CRM database proficient skills required.
  • Regular travel will be required; a reliable vehicle is necessary.

Responsibilities:

Annual Giving

  • Work collaboratively with the development team to yield increased financial support and donor participation in the GTHS giving program.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit donors at multiple giving levels realizing new revenue for the GTHS.
  • Work with the Director of Development & Communications, Executive Director, and Director of Finance & Administration, to formulate an annual work-plan and budget and provide regular reports on progress.
  • Maintain and update records in the donor CRM for GTHS donors and prospects, including all points of contact.
  • Maintain and execute Donor Recognition and Stewardship programs ensuring donors are thanked appropriately, and often.
  • Map out, monitor and improve the donor experience ensuring that from start to finish GTHS donors feel welcomed, engaged, recognized and thanked.
  • Coordinate donor development through enhanced use of CRM software (i.e. list building, data clean up etc).
  • Assist in grant research and writing.
  • Monitor donor acquisition strategies and improve conversion rates of volunteers, adopters and event participants.
  • Plans and develops the legacy giving program.
  • Plans and develops the annual Holiday Campaign including the donor mailer, Holiday Open House, Holiday Wish List and Giving Tuesday.
  • Develops and oversees annual direct mail campaigns.

Communications

  • Work with the Marketing Coordinator of Development to develop communications campaigns for donor development and fundraising programs and coordinate content for specialized donor communications.
  • Plan and participate in donor and prospecting events and activities.
  • Support development of the annual donor impact report.

Major and Mid-Level Donor Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for mid-level donors (under $100,000 annually and/or campaign-related gifts).
  • Provide personalized stewardship, including thank-you calls, updates on impact, and tailored engagement opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to upgrade mid-level donors and collaborate with the Development Specialist and the Director of Development & Communications on cultivation plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions in the CRM system and track progress toward mid-level donor goals.

Annual (Signature) Events & Third-Party Fundraising

  • Work with the Development Team and Event Chairs to formulate work-plans for annual events. This includes creating and managing event timelines and budgets in collaboration with volunteer event chairs.
  • Oversee annual fundraising events ensuring effective implementation and maximizing potential revenues.
  • Prepare materials, with support of the Marketing Coordinator, to be utilized when soliciting sponsors. Ensures sponsorship deliverables are met.
  • In collaboration with the Communications & Marketing team, coordinate internal and external communications and promotional materials for events i.e.: press releases, TV and radio advertising, e-blasts, social media, marketing materials, photo opportunities, brochures and posters. Utilizes and updates the GTHS communications calendars with all events related items.
  • In collaboration with the Volunteers Coordinator, build and coordinate an Events Volunteers Team.
  • Ensure the Director of Development & Communications and the Executive Director receives detailed post event reports related to budget and overall achievements.
  • Regular up-to-date budget and dashboard tracking.
  • Oversee third-party fundraising and provide support to Development Specialist with third-party stewardship, where needed.

Team Leadership

  • Ensure clear communication of organizational and departmental goals to all team members (volunteers and employees).
  • Oversee performance evaluations, goal-setting, and professional development opportunities for the team.
  • Collaborate with other organizational leaders to ensure alignment and integration across departments.
  • Ensure the team works in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulation.
  • Ensure that organizational and departmental information is communicated effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure appropriate team coverage by monitoring schedules and initiating recruitment campaigns for new staff and volunteers when required; participate in interviewing direct reports.
  • Develop strong relationships with team members ensuring that they are engaged, informed, and recognized for their contributions.
  • Provide leadership evaluating programs and making recommendations as required.
