We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, works well in a fast-paced setting, and can inspire others to get things done. You should feel confident working with different communities and be able to manage important details like budgets and project plans.
You’ll need to spot funding opportunities, represent Gleadless Valley in meetings, and lead employment and skills projects in the area—keeping in mind both local and national policies.
This role also involves supporting local enterprise and helping the community grow by removing barriers to jobs and training. You should understand what practical steps are needed to meet local needs and help people develop useful skills.
Health and wellbeing are key parts of this role, closely connected to jobs and skills. You’ll work with other organisations to find better ways of working together and deliver positive results for the community.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Confident managing teams, budgets, and delivery timelines
  • Background in regeneration and/or community-led development
  • Self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, stay organised, and adapt quickly
  • Experience of developing skills and employment strategies/ approaches

We’re looking for a Development Manager who’s ready to lead from the front — managing the programme’s Employment, Skills, Enterprise and Wellbeing Workstream, overseeing delivery plans, tracking progress, and supporting a variety of projects on the ground. You’ll work across both strategic and operational levels, influencing outcomes and ensuring the team delivers real results.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll divide your time between our city centre office, the Gleadless Valley estate, and working remotely.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Lead key regeneration projects from the ground up
  • Work across disciplines – from physical developments to social programmes
  • Develop professionally with exposure to high-impact work and senior stakeholders
  • See the results of your work through visible improvements in a community settin
