Position Summary The Development Specialist provides advanced coordination and operational support for NMAC’s fundraising, donor engagement, and revenue development efforts. This role is responsible for managing donor systems, supporting fundraising campaigns, coordinating donor stewardship activities, and assisting with proposal development. The Specialist plays a key role in ensuring accurate data management, effective donor communications, and successful execution of fundraising initiatives that support NMAC’s mission. Core Competencies * Fundraising Operations & Coordination – Supporting campaigns, donor engagement, and development workflows * Database Management & Data Integrity – Managing donor databases with accuracy and consistency * Development Communications – Drafting fundraising appeals and stewardship materials * Event Coordination & Donor Engagement – Supporting donor-facing events and relationship-building activities * Prospect Research & Development – Identifying and researching funding opportunities Key Responsibility Areas Donation Management & Financial Tracking * Monitor daily donations received through online platforms, mail, and fundraising campaigns * Maintain accurate donor records in the donor database * Enter donations and checks into financial tracking and donor systems * Coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate donation processing and reconciliation * Track and report fundraising and donation performance metrics Donor Database & Systems Management * Manage and maintain donor database systems, ensuring accuracy and integrity * Oversee donor record updates, contact audits, and contribution histories * Generate donor and fundraising reports for development leadership * Support data analysis related to donor engagement and fundraising performance Development Communications & Proposal Support * Draft and edit donor communications, appeals, and stewardship messages * Assist with creative content for fundraising campaigns and solicitations * Support development of organizational fundraising collateral * Assist with proposal writing, editing, and attachment preparation * Draft first versions of grant proposals and donor materials for leadership review Donor Stewardship & Relationship Support * Coordinate stewardship initiatives for individual donors and small partners * Support donor acknowledgment processes including thank-you letters and recognition * Maintain records of donor communications and engagement activities * Assist with donor relationship-building efforts Prospect Research & Funding Opportunities * Conduct research on foundation, corporate, institutional, and individual donors * Identify funding opportunities aligned with NMAC’s programs and strategic priorities * Maintain prospect tracking systems and research files * Prepare donor profiles and background materials for meetings and outreach Fundraising Events & Donor Engagement * Assist with planning and coordinating development and donor events * Support execution of annual fundraising events and special gatherings * Coordinate event logistics including invitations, attendee tracking, and materials * Provide onsite and virtual support for donor engagement activities Special Projects & Development Initiatives * Support national fundraising campaigns and special initiatives * Assist with development-related tours, convenings, and outreach activities * Coordinate collaboration between development and program teams * Provide administrative and logistical support for special projects Required Skills and Abilities * Strong organizational and project coordination skills * Excellent written and verbal communication abilities * High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy * Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities * Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills * Research and analytical proficiency * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor database systems Education and Experience * Bachelor’s degree required; nonprofit management, communications, public administration, or related field preferred * 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising coordination, or donor relations * Experience with donor databases and fundraising systems preferred * Experience supporting grant proposals and fundraising campaigns preferred Mental and Physical Requirements * Ability to manage multiple administrative and coordination responsibilities * Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events * Ability to travel occasionally for donor and organizational events * Prolonged use of digital tools and database systems Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) & Measurable Outcomes Donor Data & Financial Tracking KPI: Accurate management of donor records and contributions * Timely and accurate data entry * Accurate reconciliation with financial records * Maintained database integrity Fundraising Support & Proposal Development KPI: Effective support of campaigns and proposals * On-time preparation of fundraising materials * Completion of proposal drafts aligned with timelines * Effective support of solicitations and outreach Donor Engagement & Stewardship KPI: Strong donor relationship support * Timely acknowledgments and stewardship communications * Accurate tracking of donor engagement * Successful coordination of donor events and activities Equal Employment Opportunity Statement NMAC is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
