QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

As a unionized employer for frontline direct care staff, we require the following qualifications:

  • Commitment to completing Certification in Safe Management Group Crisis Intervention (SMG)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage daily tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Discretion and sound judgment in a fast-paced residential environment
  • Strong crisis management skills
  • Valid G-Class driver’s license, car insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C certifications
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector police records check and pre-employment medical screening (required prior to employment)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with current Quality Assurance legislation (QAM)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates should be physically capable of:

  • Regularly kneeling, squatting, bending, and twisting
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs
  • Performing tasks that require a firm grip
  • Maintaining full range of motion in arms and legs
  • Engaging in physical interventions or containment as needed, in accordance with annual Safe Management Training certification
Responsibilities
  • Implement behavior support plans, providing hands-on assistance with daily living activities
  • Promote community inclusion, independence, and self-determination, while helping clients achieve personal goals
  • Provide personal care as needed, ensuring clients’ dignity and comfort
  • Support clients’ self-expression and be knowledgeable about verbal and non-verbal communication methods, including alternative communication systems
  • Use problem-solving skills to work effectively with team members and families
  • Accurately complete all required documentation and reports
  • Apply behavioral techniques and track client progress
  • Conduct thorough client observations and complete assessments and reports during shifts
  • Support clients in engaging in social, educational, community, and recreational activities to enhance their well-being
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients and staff, ensuring the home is a place of pride for all involved
