Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to join our Authoring Platform organization, a key part of the Engine division. In this role, you’ll be a core technical leader and a member of our leadership team, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Software Engineering. You’ll act as an extension of your manager’s authority, coordinating technical direction across a subset of the organization.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • We’re looking for someone who has a proven track record of building complex, high-performance systems and developer tools at scale. You have a deep understanding of what game engines are and how modern distributed systems work. You have deep expertise in core engine architecture, real-time rendering, or tooling for creative professionals. You are adept at gathering information from across the organization and can selectively get hands-on to maintain the context needed for informed decision-making. You excel at working on highly complex challenges and can produce documentation that supports the team with architectural vision, risk assessment, and dependency management.

You might also have

  • Experience with game development pipelines, 3D content creation tools, or VFX software.
  • A background in compilers, domain-specific languages, or low-level systems programming.
  • Active contributions to open-source projects in a related domain.
  • Familiarity with the Unity Editor and its core systems.

Responsibilities
  • As a Staff Engineer, you will take long-term ownership of the lifecycle of high-value projects, holding others accountable to our core engineering principles. You’ll consistently secure the entire critical path of delivery, even when faced with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
  • You’ll consistently work cross-functionally to resolve ambiguity and convert business problems into a set of technical solutions. You are an expert at sequencing these solutions to deliver value incrementally, and you will proactively advocate for the integrity of the plan. You will be able to communicate this plan to managers and individual contributors, both in written form for broad alignment and verbally when presenting to stakeholders.
