JOB SUMMARY

We are currently looking for a Device Data Specialist to join our Scientific Data & Insight Function within the Safety & Surveillance group.
This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.
We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Our successful candidate will have:

• A PhD, or equivalent experience, in epidemiology, medical statistics or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to independently produce well-focused scientific reviews and presentations.
• An understanding of the device data life cycle and the scientific literature on device signal detection and safety.
• Experience in the management and/or supervision of professional staff.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts and results to a wide range of stakeholders including non-experts.

WHAT’S THE ROLE?

The Device Data Specialist role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the use of real-world data to support medical device safety and surveillance. They will apply their research and data analysis expertise to support the Agency in making best use of device safety, regulatory and master/reference data to protect patient safety and public health effectively and efficiently. This involves leading on data quality and analysis projects, identifying novel methods for device epidemiology and communicating complex findings to a variety of stakeholders including the senior leadership of the Agency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead projects to characterise real-world data sources and report on data quality for the Agency’s safety, regulatory and master/reference data.
• Lead applied research projects to identify and develop new ways to interrogate available data sources on medical devices to support the safety and surveillance activities of the Agency.
• Line manage a team of device data researchers and data scientists, supporting their development and ensuring effective delivery of objectives.
• Interact across the Agency and with external stakeholders to optimise device data quality, encouraging collaboration across areas.

Certain roles within the MHRA will require post holders to have vaccinations, and in some circumstances, routine health surveillance. These roles include:

• Laboratory-based roles working directly with known pathogens
• Maintenance roles, particularly those required to work in laboratory settings
• Roles that involve visiting other establishments where vaccination is required
• Roles required to travel overseas where specific vaccination may be required
