About Us: The UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) is a leader in research and innovation, dedicated to improving patient outcomes through advanced data science and analytics. We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer for the Wisconsin Health Data Hub (WHDH), recently funded by the EDA as part of the Tech Hub (https://news.wisc.edu/federal-funds-awarded-for-biohealth-with-uw-madison-leading-the-way/) initiative, and drive transformative data science projects to enhance healthcare and research at SMPH.

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership in the design, integration, delivery, and operational support of applications or services and development operations (DevOps) in WHDH, through automation and/or infrastructure as code. The incumbent will provide advanced and varied consultation on infrastructure, anticipate issues and devise resolution methodology. In addition, the incumbent will provide non-routine maintenance and long-term assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and stable Azure infrastructure solutions.
  • Implement and manage continuous integration and continuous delivery or deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Azure DevOps.
  • Automate tasks through scripting and other appropriate tools.
  • Ensure security and compliance with Azure policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to resolve infrastructure-related issues.
  • Collaborate with software developers to optimize application performance.
  • Monitor systems, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement solutions proactively.
  • Develop and maintain design and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Plan disaster recovery measures and maintain data storage security in Azure.

EDUCATION:

Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree
Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Proven experience as an Azure DevOps Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency with Azure services and DevOps tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, ARM templates, Terraform).
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation and management.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred:

  • Azure DevOps Engineer certification.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with other cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP).

  • 10% Serves as technical lead for one or more aspects of the system
  • 20% Analyzes requirements and communicates and coordinates with staff and internal stakeholders related to the system and/or project
  • 20% Develops, programs, and/or deploys automation workflows for deployment, configuration, and/or monitoring of systems/services
  • 20% Manages, maintains, selects, and develops automation tools and infrastructure, including security configurations
  • 20% Performs integration, migration, configuration, and security of existing applications and services into automated infrastructures
  • 10% Serves as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders, providing guidance and training to staff
