THE KEY SKILLS (A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF SOME / MOST OF THESE) -

Excellent Linux skills over multiple distributions
Excellent scripting skills in BASH or similar
Some programming knowledge, however, would not expect this to be your strongest point - Php ideally
AWS experience, ideally with a qualification (not essential)
Other cloud experience to some degree (Google or Azure)
Some networking experience, but does not matter if limited to just cloud (i.e. not switches etc.)
Some form of automation experience (Ansible or GitLab runners ideally - as long as you are strong at something in this space
To Sum up - Skills used so you need to have a number of these
Linux administration - Debian / Ubuntu - Bash Scripting
Devops background
Database Administration - RDS / MySQL / MongoDB
AWS Experience - VPC, EC2, ELB, RDS, etc

LINUX IS THE MAIN PART OF THE ROLE, SO IF YOU ARE NOT STRONG IN THIS AREA, THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU.

The Role is Office based (Head office is Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire - Metropolitan Line - London Underground / Chiltern Rail (Marylebone) – with an easy commute from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, London, Middlesex and parts of Bedfordshire.

THE ROLE

You will be responsible for deployment, configuration and maintenance of Systems. The role has a wider scope to assist with all server-related tasks company wide, and work with the lead System Administrator and the Software Team on new solution designs.
The role generally requires someone with a technical implementation background in infrastructure with real world experience of delivering technical solutions.

WHAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR (SOME / MOST OF THESE – AS YOU GROW INTO THE ROLE) -

Administer live database systems – MySQL / MongoDB / Linux
Setup / Configure new / existing database systems with master / slave replication
Conducting problem analysis and generating case documentation for escalation.
Management of Servers / Infrastructure (Mainly Linux with some Windows).
Implementation of security policies.
Maintaining and extending monitoring, metrics, and alerting systems using software platform Site24x7.
Provide on call support per rota (also provide escalation).
