JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a proactive, hands-on DevOps & Integration Software Engineer with a strong background in DevOps practices and application-level troubleshooting in containerized microservices environments . This position is embedded in a major subway infrastructure project in Mississauga, where Hitachi acts as the system integrator for the entire metropolitan system.
You will play a key role in the commissioning, verification, and debugging of a centralized integration platform for safety and security services, working in a complex, distributed system deployed using Docker and modern web technologies. The role is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solid experience in troubleshooting software systems in real-world deployments, especially in containerized microservice architectures (Docker).
  • Proficiency with Linux, networking, web applications and web service integration (REST, HTTP, TCP/IP).
  • Strong understanding of system observability tools (logs, metrics, traces) and their use in identifying and resolving issues.
  • Hands-on experience with Node.js-based backend systems and Angular frontend applications.
  • Clear and professional written and spoken communication in English.
  • Proven ability to operate independently in complex, multi-stakeholder technical environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Min 2-5 years experience in SCADA, security, or large-scale infrastructure systems.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker Compose, and version control (Git).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices in operational environments.
  • Experience with monitoring/logging platforms (e.g., GrayLog).
  • Understanding of Docker
  • French language skills are an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Background Check.

EDUCATION

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Ontario P.Eng nice to have

Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site verification and validation of software installations across multiple field locations.
  • Support the commissioning and live deployment of containerized web-based microservices running on Linux-based infrastructure.
  • Carry out debugging, system diagnostics, and root-cause analysis of software components in live environments.
  • Collaborate closely with development, DevOps, and commissioning teams to resolve integration issues in production and test environments.
  • Interpret logs and application telemetry to support troubleshooting and incident resolution.
  • Apply configuration management tools and best practices during deployments and updates.
  • Maintain clear, detailed technical documentation for deployed systems, issue tracking, and field activities.
  • Provide structured feedback to the Project Technical Coordinator, including progress reports and risk assessments.
  • Travel to field sites along the subway line as required by commissioning activities.
