Title: DG BOSS: Laboratory Analyst (Chemist) (FN) The Laboratory Analyst (Chemist) is responsible for conducting water quality monitoring, laboratory testing, and data management to ensure compliance with applicable water quality standards and regulatory requirements. This role supports safe and efficient water supply, treatment, and distribution processes while maintaining strict adherence to quality assurance and safety protocols. Roles and Responsibilities Water Quality Monitoring (3.2): Conduct water quality monitoring to ensure efficient water management and compliance with established criteria. Well Pumpage Monitoring (3.2.1): Sample, analyze, and report well water levels and quality to prevent aquifer damage, including saltwater intrusion. Nanofiltration & GAC Monitoring (3.2.2): Monitor nanofiltration and granular activated carbon processes to ensure continuous and effective operations. Water Compliance (3.2.3): Test treated FFHC and non-FFHC water to confirm compliance with required quality standards. Sub-Site Water System Monitoring (3.2.4): Perform water quality monitoring at sub-site systems to meet waterfront demand requirements. Perfluorochemicals (PFCs) Monitoring: Conduct testing for PFOS and PFOA to ensure levels remain below US EPA lifetime health advisory limits. Water Quality Data Tracking (3.3.2): Maintain accurate, timely records of water quality data for compliance reporting Supporting Navy QAM inspections and ODW Laboratory audits. Conducting microbiological and nitrate/nitrite compliance sampling and analyses per DG FGS and CNICINST 5090.1. Receiving, tracking, analyzing, reporting, and disposing of samples per established procedures. Preparing chemical reagents/solutions and performing a variety of chemical and biological tests. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace; sanitizing tools and equipment as needed. Performing routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring adherence to QA/QC protocols. Managing laboratory inventory and supplies, including ordering, verifying, and logging received items. Participating in internal/external audits and proficiency testing. Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing the required personal protective equipment. Performs other work-related duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives. Basic Qualifications Demonstrated experience conducting coliform, nitrate, and nitrite testing for FFHC water systems. Strong knowledge of sample collection, preparation, data review, reporting, and instrument maintenance. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multitask and coordinate across departments. Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing). Must pass overseas medical screening and maintain good health. Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Preferred Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING Completion of Environmental Quality Sampling (EQS) training from the Naval Civil Engineer Corps Officers School (CECOS) under ISEERB standards. Personnel qualifications as specified in Chapter 7 of OPNAV M-5090.1 (Environmental Readiness Program Manual) and Navy ODW Laboratory Policy. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college. EXPERIENCE: Must have at least (1-2) years of experience in a laboratory setting, sampling, and analysis of water treatment and distribution facilities. Must demonstrate knowledge and experience in the protocols for sample collection, preservation, and analysis for chemical and microbiological parameters.
