POSITION SUMMARY

Working all shifts, the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Assistant supports and facilitates the imaging of inpatients, ER patients and outpatients in collaboration with the imaging technologist. The assistant role spans across all modalities and requires excellent daily communication and collaboration with patients, medical imaging technologists, clerical staff, nurses and physicians.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Medical Terminology Certificate is required
  • Post-secondary diploma in a related health care field EG Paramedicine, PSW, Physio Assistant, Health Care Administration is preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a health care setting is required.
  • One year experience working in a Diagnostic Imaging department is preferred.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable to the policies and procedures, goals, and objectives of the hospital and the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
  • Follow the mission and vision of the hospital in his/her relationships with patients, staff and the general public.
  • Document and submit incident reports as required according to the requirements of the quality management system.
  • Participation in Diagnostic Imaging quality assurance activities, quality management system, department huddles, and meetings.
  • Support patient flow across all modalities and patient types
  • Monitor wait spaces to ensure patients are registered, in the correct wait space and communicate delays if appropriate
  • Assist in patient wayfinding, preparation (changing) and preliminary screening form review
  • Escort patient into exam room, assist technologists with patient transfers and escort patient out of imaging room to change room and exit
  • Assist in exam room change over by appropriately cleaning the workspace, related equipment and changing linens
  • Assist in coordinating ED/IP patients, by calling sending departments, scheduling patients and arranging transportation
  • Transport patients as needed to expedite care
  • Transport specimens to the Lab as needed
  • Complete department order entry for examinations in Cerner as needed
  • Support and educate patients to access imaging exams for other providers (Pockethealth/ENITS)
  • Support inventory control by ordering, receiving, maintaining current inventory and follows up on orders for missing items, misplaced items or defective it
