Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in an Interventional Radiology (IR) department assisting with procedures which require handling specific equipment (including thrombectomy devices, or power injector), utilizing procedure specific supplies (including guidewires, catheters, or PTA balloons; and performing procedures that include neurological, thoracic, abdominal/pelvic and peripheral studies of the arterial/venous systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Help

• Select, set up, and operate the imaging equipment to best present the medically significant aspects found if unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered.
• Handle necessary drugs as per physician protocol (including heparin, tissue plasminogen activator, embolic agents, lidocaine, contrast agents).
• Perform complex and highly specialized angiographic and interventional procedures.
• Perform thoracic, abdominal/pelvic and peripheral studies of the arterial/venous systems, non-vascular genitourinary, gastrointestinal and other miscellaneous studies such as but not limited to:
• Embolization, uterine fibroid embolization, adrenal vein sampling, percutaneous nephrostomy placements, biopsies, subcutaneous port placement, etc.
• Provide assistance to the radiologist as the primary circulator during all cases and also acts as a scrub technologist when needed.
• Perform clerical duties such as the triage and scheduling of patients after reviewing requests from physicians and other health care providers.
• Assist with maintaining inventory (stock levels) of consumable products and orders additional supplies in order to meet demand based on historical utilization and practice trends.
• Maintain Interventional Radiology Service product inventory including but not limited to vascular catheters and sheaths, embolization coils and spheres, endovascular stents, balloon-tipped catheters, etc.
