Description
The Diagnostic Specialist III Maternal Fetal Medicine, performs basic to highly complex Obstetric ultrasound examinations in accordance with AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) established protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares ultrasound scanning rooms
  • Performs highly complex sonograms based on AIUM guidelines.
  • Performs highly complex transvaginal sonograms.
  • Performs highly complex biophysical profiles for fetal assessment.
  • Performs highly complex umbilical artery Doppler studies.
  • Performs the following highly complex procedures: Chorionic Villus Sampling, Amniocentesis, MPR (Multiple Pregnancy Reduction) and PUBS
  • Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, positioning and imaging techniques to optimize the quality of ultrasound images. Utilizes advanced experience to assist other sonographers in highly complex imaging procedures.
  • Effectively communicates differentials to perinatal physicians.
  • Assists in developing ultrasound protocols along with MFM physicians. Assists in teaching and guiding technicians with new protocols.
  • Trains and mentors ultrasound students, visiting medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Participates in the performance and documentation of quality control, quality assurance and improvement activities. Evaluates procedure results for technical quality and accuracy; maintains appropriate logs, files, and records.
  • Prepares instruments for sterile/disinfection JCAHO criteria.
  • Maintains equipment to assure conformance with specific operational standards. Maintains equipment in working order, performs routine cleaning and preventive maintenance, and reports any equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment to comply with established infection control and departmental protocols. Operates and cares for testing equipment.
  • Provides patient education related to ultrasound studies.
  • Generates accurate computerized ultrasound reports.
  • Communicates effectively and compassionately with patients, family members and other employees.
  • Any other assignments or projects assigned by perinatal physicians, practice manager or ultrasound technician supervisor.

Qualifications
5 (five) years of ultrasound experience.
Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program with clinical and didactic education
Non-Bargaining Unit, 843 - Obs/Gyn Reproductive Science - ISM, Icahn School of Medicine
