Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Diesel Mechanic – Will work alongside our team of shop employees to maintain fleet vehicles/assets and increase the efficiency of Wabash Trucking’s maintenance department. REPORTS TO: Service Shop Supervisor ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains advanced knowledge of, and a strong proficiency in the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform complex repair maintenance functions both on site and on the road. Chassis component repair and maintenance. Truck bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; Air and hydraulic braking systems. Engine repair and maintenance. Suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems. Heating and air conditioning systems. Line maintenance welding and fabrication. Identifies the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools. Completes applicable company training programs. Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Valid Driver’s License required. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Trade school diploma preferred. ASE Heavy Truck Certifications (T1 through T8) are a plus but not required. Class B or higher CDL is a plus but not required. 10+ years of experience as a technician working on heavy-duty trucks preferred. COMPETENCIES: Extensive knowledge of all aspects of maintenance and repair. Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software. Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues. Ability to read service and repair manuals. Ability to read work orders. Ability to complete required paperwork to document work and parts utilized. Ability to perform repairs in a timely manner. Requirements PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Physical Activity: Talking, hearing, repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time. Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present. Visual Acuity: ability to inspect repair work and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
