Description

We are seeking an experienced, safety-focused Diesel Mechanic to join our dynamic Isaac Construction Group team in Blenheim. If you are passionate about heavy vehicles, machinery maintenance, and want to be a key part of keeping New Zealand’s infrastructure moving, we want to hear from you!

DIESEL MECHANIC SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Formal trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Engineering or a related mechanical discipline.
  • Previous experience working as a Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Fitter, or Heavy Equipment Technician—ideally in a civil construction or transport environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of heavy diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and associated diagnostics.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematic diagrams, and use electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to fleet reliability.
  • Full Class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence (Class 4 or WTR endorsements advantageous).
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practices.
  • Great communication and teamwork skills, with an inclusive and respectful attitude.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
Responsibilities

As a Diesel Mechanic, you will carry out diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on our diverse fleet of trucks, plant, and heavy equipment, supporting construction projects across the South Island. You will work as part of an inclusive and collaborative team, contributing to high-quality project delivery and operational reliability.

Key Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on diesel trucks, earthmoving equipment, and civil construction plant.
  • Carry out routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections to minimise downtime and enhance fleet performance.
  • Undertake field service work and provide breakdown assistance as required on-site throughout the region.
  • Document all repairs, parts usage and service activities using our fleet management systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with operations, project teams, and suppliers to ensure proactive support of construction activities.
  • Champion a strong health, safety, and environmental culture in line with company and regulatory requirements.
