Rotating on call schedule.   General Purpose: Perform the majority of truck and/or trailer maintenance and repairs, ensuring that equipment is available and in optimal operating condition, while working under minimal supervision. Work with the assistance of other mechanics or supervisors when performing highly technical or intricate diagnostic repairs.  Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Responds to maintenance requests from drivers, safety coordinator, DOT coordinator, shop foreperson, transportation supervisor, and fleet manager. * Maintains and repairs trucks and trailers to be in proper operating condition according to DOT specifications. * Conducts periodic inspections, diagnoses problems, and eliminating unsafe operating conditions. * Performs annual vehicle inspection and admissions tests in compliance with state regulations. * Operates arc and mig weld equipment. Qualifications Education and Experience: * High School diploma or equivalent * 2 to 4 years of mechanic, maintenance, or related experience * Certification and/or License – Mechanic certification, CDL license, or other relevant certifications or licenses may be required. Must have a valid Driver's License.  Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Must be able to read and understand driver inspection reports * Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing * Must be able to provide and use personal hand tools appropriate for working on heavy equipment * Must have knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations Physical Demands and Work Environment: * Must be able to lift 75 lbs * Must be able to pass a physical demands analysis An Equal Opportunity Employer
