Description The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the company’s fleet of diesel trucks and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role reports directly to the Shop Manager and works closely with shop leadership to support fleet readiness, minimize downtime, and meet operational demands. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on diesel mechanic experience and demonstrate strong troubleshooting, safety, and communication skills. Requirements Key Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on diesel engines, heavy-duty trucks, and related equipment. Inspect mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air brake systems to identify issues and determine corrective actions. Perform routine services including oil changes, brake repairs, engine diagnostics, suspension work, and DOT-related inspections as assigned. Communicate repair status, parts needs, and equipment readiness clearly to the Shop Manager. Accurately document repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities using company maintenance systems. Assist with maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient shop environment. Identify recurring mechanical issues and provide recommendations for long-term solutions or preventive measures. Support emergency repairs and time-sensitive maintenance needs as required to keep the fleet operational. Follow all safety policies, DOT regulations, and company maintenance standards. Qualifications Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic working on heavy-duty trucks or equipment. Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems. Ability to read and interpret diagnostic data, service manuals, and technical schematics. High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred. Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required. DOT inspection and air brake certifications are a plus or willingness to obtain.
