ZTEX Construction is a heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities and overall project management. We are locally owned, and we are currently looking for Diesel Mechanics from entry level to well-experienced.
Diesel Mechanics are responsible, under direction, to perform mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, light trucks, and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines.
  • Knowledge of the principles of internal combustion and diesel engine operation.
  • Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment associated with the servicing of vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair operational problems on automotive equipment.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on a variety of vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Ability to use computers, electronic diagnostic tools, automotive scanners for diagnostics.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, charts, etc.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electronic control systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other department personnel.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., General Educational Development (GED), foreign equivalency, etc.)
  • Associate degree in automotive and diesel mechanic preferred.
  • Certification- Mechanic Training preferred.
  • Proven Experience in the maintenance and repairs of light trucks, specifically Ford units, both diesel and gasoline.
  • Must possess a valid and active driver’s license at the time of application.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Medium/heavy - exert force of 50-100 lbs. occasionally; 25-50 lbs. frequently; or 10-20 lbs. constantly. Frequent talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, and feeling. Hearing and speech to communicate in person, via video conference and computers, or over the telephone. Mobility to work in a typical mechanic shop and use of mechanical equipment. Stamina to remain standing/stooping and maintain concentration for an extended period. Vision: Frequent near acuity, depth perception, and color vision.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening. If applicable to the contract, you may also be required to submit through a background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work, must have a valid driver’s license at time of application.

  • Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services a variety of vehicles, apparatus, and allied equipment.
  • Troubleshoots hydraulic and electrical problems.
  • Performs diagnostic evaluation of equipment by use of automotive scanners.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance work such as changing oils, lubrications, and inspections.
  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
  • Operates other equipment such as a hoist jack, overhead crane, and tools to fabricate, service, and repair vehicles.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Performs physical inventories of service truck parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
  • Maintains established safety standards; ensures a clean and organized work environment
