Description
Description Purpose: This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on diesel and non-diesel vehicles and heavy equipment to sound safe, and reliable performance of the vehicle and/or equipment, as well as provide guidance and assistance to Diesel Technicians I and II. Essential Functions: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. Contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture while upholding the company’s core values. Change and repair tires per manufacturer specifications. Perform oil and filter services on automobiles, concrete trucks, tractor-trailers, front-end loaders, and several types of equipment. Perform diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems ranging from auxiliary components (e.g., lighting, switches) to complex 12V and 24V primary electrical architectures on fleet trucks and heavy equipment. Assess power and hydraulic systems to ensure operation per manufacturer specifications. Complete required lubrication and greasing of all wear items on affected trucks and equipment. Diagnose and repair wheel bearings, hub assemblies, and seals on steer and drive axles. Remove and repair universal and slip joints and support bearings on drive shafts. Diagnose and repair air and hydraulic brake systems and pressurized water systems. Perform major diagnosis and repair of gas and diesel engines. Complete engine reconditioning service. Diagnose and repair fuel injection, transmission, and regeneration systems using laptop and scan diagnostic tools. Remove, disassemble, diagnose, and repair differentials. Remove and repair automatic and manual transmissions. Perform service calls to diagnose and repair off-site trucks and equipment using company service vehicle. Return affected vehicles or equipment to service as efficiently as possible, while ensuring accurate repairs have been made. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the company service vehicle. Ensure that all tools and equipment is returned to the proper location in the company service vehicle. Use pressure washer to maintain cleanliness of the equipment. Maintain clean and organized work area. Follow repair order directions. Complete write-up and provide accurate description or repairs made and parts utilized in a timely manner. Coordinate procurement of required components and ensure timely return of core parts to the Parts Department in accordance with inventory and warranty protocols. Work closely with Area Fleet Manager to maintain positive workflow throughout the shop. Provide guidance and assistance to Diesel Technicians I and II when needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum Requirements: Valid Driver’s License required. High School Diploma/GED preferred. Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred; or minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance or mechanical ability. ASE Certifications preferred. Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred. Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if it is operating properly. Must provide own hand tools & toolbox. Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles. Ability to read schematics and familiarity with the process. Proficient computer skills: knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.) Physical Demands: Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. from floor to waist height. Ability to carry a minimum of 60 lbs. over a 5-foot span. Ability to push/pull a minimum of 50 lbs. across a 10-foot span. Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. from waist to shoulder. Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to bend or twist body without restriction. Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl. Ability to work in extreme weather, including but not limited to high heat, low temperature, and high sun environments.
