Located in beautiful east Tennessee, approximately 30 minutes north of Knoxville, Norris Academy is a psychiatric residential treatment facility for children and youth, ages 5 to 18, with various mental health issues. Norris Academy has 63 licensed beds and serves youth from Tennessee as well as several other states. The purpose of the program is to provide intensive services to those facing the challenges of dual diagnosis, meaningfully engaging and diminishing problematic behaviors in order to provide the opportunity for transition of the individual back into the community and into the home. Under general direction of the Kitchen Manager and Quality Assurance Department, the food service worker is responsible for the preparation and serving of meals according to the approved menu and accordance to the sanitation regulations to all students, staff, and visitors. This position requires decision making skills and the ability to supervise other staff and students. Maintain and keep the food service department in an orderly fashion, according to different licensing, sanitation, and accreditation standards. Job Duties: · Comply with the approved menu by the registered dietician, and Kitchen Manager. · Serve meals that are nutritious, balanced and attractive. · Must be able to follow recipes at varying levels of difficulty and plan and schedule cooking procedures so that completed foods are ready and held at the correct temperature and time in compliance with the sanitation regulations. · Able to examine foods for quality and freshness, monitor temperatures and steam pressures in compliance with sanitation regulations. · The position requires knowledge of food preparation principles, including knowledge of flavoring materials and seasonings in modifying or extending recipes, skill in managing cooking processes so that food items are served on time and that safe temperature and time controls are met, and knowledge of sanitation procedures. · Maintains all items that are considered sharps or toxins are locked at all times and only used under the supervision of assigned staff. · Ensures safety of all students, staff, and visitors Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent required.
