We are ranked as the third in the country for research, embedding education and training across the organisation. Our main hub is the Queen Alexandra Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast employing over 8,700 staff.
Our patients come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our hospital stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for getting it right for patients, colleagues, and our community, you will find a home at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust
Portsmouth Dietitians are a team of around 30 dietitians and support staff providing acute and community dietetic services to adults and children in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and supportive team offering a range of opportunities for development in specialities including oncology, stroke, renal, surgery, paediatrics and community dietetics. We provide placement supervision to student dietitians.
Job Description
Due to development and promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for band 5 dietitians to join our team at one of the South’s largest hospitals.
We are looking for individuals for our band 5 dietetic rotations covering oncology, stroke and acute medical caseloads. This band 5 rotational post provides the perfect opportunity to develop clinical and professional skills through structured competencies, a preceptorship programme and clinical effectiveness projects. Staff are encouraged to continually develop towards the next step in their career with many internal opportunities available.
You will work within the Queen Alexandra Hospital site as part of the acute dietetic team providing input to patients falling within your rotation. Working closely with the other band 5 dietitians, you will prioritise dietetic referrals alongside your active caseload to ensure patients are seen appropriately. Working closely with the appropriate specialist MDT’s you will develop the dietetic services alongside dietitians within the acute and community teams. The rotations include a weekly clinic that is covered between the rotations.
Personal and service development is valued within the department and you will be supported to complete the competencies for your rotation and make the most of learning from our specialist teams in paediatrics, renal, head and neck cancer, oesophagogastric and intestinal failure specialities. Service review and development is a key part of all our posts and you will supported to develop analytical and research skills.
The department places a strong emphasis on clinical and peer support and supervision, and has a well-established programme facilitating the training of dietetic students from the Universities of Surrey and Winchester. We are also involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care.
Each rotation is 6 months in length.
Although this is a full time post- part time applicants will be considered. Applications are encouraged from dietetic students awaiting results and HCPC registration.
