The Italian Canadian Archives Project is seeking a recent graduate to fulfill a position partially funded through the Young Canada Works-Building Careers in Heritage Grant. This person will be 30 years of age or under, has graduated in a related field in the last 24 months, is under-employed or unemployed and is interested and able to work full-time for a six-month period. As a condition of employment, you must be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.
This opportunity offers a recent graduate with hands-on experience in information management, online database management skills and platforms, and the opportunity to document, organize, and digitize existing materials for future generations. The Italian Canadian Archives Project is preserving Italian Canadian stories through their Digital Archives Project, offering donors the opportunity to have digital access to a small capsule collection. Discover the history of Italian Canadians and work in preserving the cultural heritage of Italian immigrants.
ICAP is receiving applications until August 22. The position is expected to begin in mid-late October. The work period will be Monday through Friday. Join us and become part of a national network working to preserve the Italian Canadian experience.
The successful candidate should have a degree in Archives and Records Management, Information Management, or Museums Studies to be evaluated during the interview process. A specialization/interest in Digital Archives, Computer Sciences, or a comparable discipline, would be an asset. Previous experience interviewing professionals and/or community members would be an asset.
The successful candidate should have knowledge and/or experience in digitization practices and be familiar with the process of collecting associated metadata. Experience in Excel and/or information management software, such as OMEKA, is considered an asset.
The successful candidate should have native or advanced proficiency in English. Basic proficiency in Italian is considered an asset as the successful candidate will be working closely with individuals who primarily speak Italian.
The candidate should be able to work efficiently: both independently as well as on a team, and demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, punctuality, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Candidate will work on the York University campus (4700 Keele Street, Toronto ON) and should have access to a reliable method of transportation. Candidate will need to provide their own computer/laptop for the duration of the work term.
ICAP is an equal-opportunity employer committed to an inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection process. We respect, encourage, and celebrate diversity.
