Description

The Tickle College of Engineering Office of Communications at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), seeks to hire a digital media specialist. This position works closely with other internal team members as well as college and departmental clients within engineering to promote the activities of faculty and students through digital channels. This position collects, creates, and implements electronic media content on a variety of digital platforms for the college and departments that reflect an understanding of the principles of UI, UX, and SEO best practices within existing brand guidelines and current accessibility. Additionally, this position creates and posts content to departmental social media accounts as part of the college and department’s overall strategic content plan.

This position follows a hybrid schedule working in-office two days per week and remotely for the rest. Our in-office time is used primarily for team meetings and formal and informal collaboration.

  • Creates, updates, and maintains content for departmental websites.
  • Creates content for the college and its administrative unit websites.
  • Creates and maintains digital content plan for each department that works within the college’s overarching content plan as well as meets the strategic priorities of the departments.
  • Maintains analytics data for websites and emails for the college’s departments. Using this data, builds content plans and distribution models for digital content.
  • Finds opportunities to cross-post content from departmental websites to other digital platforms including the college’s digital platforms as appropriate.
  • Works with digital team to plan and coordinate larger departmental website redesigns as needed.
  • Works individually with faculty to setup and train them on use of personal research websites.
  • Uses email marketing platforms to create e-newsletters for departments and college as needed while using analytics to determine the most-relevant and impactful content for department and college newsletters while shaping content plans for multiple audiences to meet strategic priorities.
  • Coordinate social media posts for departmental social media accounts and coordinates with Social Media Manager for cross posting to college social channels.
  • Meets as part of a team and individually with clients about ongoing digital projects.
  • May work on video projects for the college and departments as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate’s Degree in communications, marketing, web design, English, or related field
Experience: 2+ years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of web accessibility standards, SEO and web best practices, information architecture, and the principles of user-centered design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe creative software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WordPress or other content management system.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to write short- and long-form content for a variety of digital platforms.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage, and deliver multiple projects on a rolling delivery schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage professional social media accounts.
  • Ability to produce creative work within a system of established templates and content delivery systems.Ability to work well independently and as a member of a collaborative team; act professionally; provide and be receptive to feedback and constructive criticism; be a self-motivated learner; and build and maintain good customer satisfaction for the Tickle College of Engineering Office of Communications.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, web design, English, or related field
Experience: 4+ years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Proficient knowledge of web coding and standards and the process of ground-up website development.
  • General knowledge of the principles of effective communication, marketing, and advertising (particularly in online media).
  • Strong interactive design and information architecture skills.
  • Ability to think conceptually and critically and make use of good political and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to video edit and use video editing software.Advocates for best practices in electronic communications.
