We’re delighted that you’re interested in working with us. You’d be joining us at a very exciting time! Our MakerPlace at the Central Library continues to develop new ideas for creative technology-based workshops and activities. We are working with residents through our programme of events and with schools and community groups too. There is always more that we can do – are you up for the challenge? Are you motivated to help others and keen to learn new skills?
We pride ourselves on our ambitious and forward-thinking approach to taking care of Gateshead and its people, and we passionately believe that our employees reflect that spirit in truly enabling Gateshead to thrive.
You’d be a highly valued member of a team that recognises and respects the skills that you bring to your role, encourages creativity and takes pride in helping others. And with a full suite of outstanding employee benefits, we’re confident that it isn’t just the salary that attracts our staff.
Your new team
The Library Service’s Digital Team work across Gateshead in libraries, schools and community venues to support residents to learn new digital skills. The team develops, promotes and delivers digital library services and encourages aspiration to use new technologies. The team is based in the MakerPlace at the Central Library, where many of our activities take place. To ensure we can work with residents across the borough some sessions are delivered from other venues also. The team also supports the wider library service to ensure employees can include digital activities within their wider events programme. For more information about our public programme please visit www.gateshead.gov.uk/whatson
Your new role
You will develop and deliver an accessible, creative programme of digital activities. You will deliver activities to a wide range of ages and abilities and will have experience of working in a public library or similar customer focussed environment. The role requires you to explore and develop new and existing partnerships and opportunities to promote digital services, to help us reach new audiences. You’ll also assist in the creation and delivery of training sessions to develop both library service employees and resident’s digital skills. As such, you’ll be confident in IT and learning new technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutting and heat transfer processes and have some knowledge of coding, although these skills can be developed on the job.
You will have experience of working in a team and prioritising your own workload. This is a customer facing role, so you’ll also have experience of delivering excellent customer service. Regular evening working is required and alternate Saturdays, 9am to 1pm.
