POSITION OVERVIEW

The Digital Innovation Specialist is responsible for developing and providing training to the public and Library staff related to digital media literacy and emerging technologies, such as social media, artificial intelligence (AI), downloadable and streaming media, popular software, hardware, and mobile devices, etc. The person in this position creates programs, training, and other content in a variety of formats to meet the needs of the public and staff. Hours include a combination of days, nights, and weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma/HiSet/GED - Required
  • 3 years’ experience in technology training or library training required
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on education, technology, communications or related areas- Preferred

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES TO BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION ARE:

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with planning, coordination and execution of large tech events for staff and the public.
  • Plans, coordinates and provides trainings on emerging technology and digital media literacy for branch Technology Associates and applicable branch staff.
  • Develops and implements emerging technology programs and classes for staff and the public in coordination with the Digital Innovation Manager.
  • In coordination with the Digital Innovation Manager, produces high quality educational video content; including but not limited to coordination with talent, scheduling video shoots, providing on set assistance, writing scripts, and working with Virtual Programing Producer on edits
  • Works with branch Technology Associates, applicable branch staff and Reader Engagement Department to schedule seasonal menu of programming
  • Works with applicable branch staff, Reader Engagement Department, and Marketing to schedule pop-up style classes and programs
  • Maintains existing catalog of emerging consumer technology classes and applicable materials to ensure staff and customers have access to the most up to date information.
  • Assist Technology Associates with development of in-branch emerging technology classes
  • Coordinate and work with other MCPL departments on technology initiatives for staff and the public
  • Work with school district representatives and other community partners to educate the public on digital media literacy and other emerging technology topics
  • Writes blogs for the MCPL website and staff emails on emerging technology

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attend relevant conferences and workshops on emerging technology and digital media literacy.
