Division: Global News Calgary - News Gathering Work Status: Full-Time Location: Calgary, AB (Onsite) About the Role: Global Calgary’s News Department is seeking a permanent, full-time Digital Journalist to join our dynamic team. In this multi-platform role, you will produce, edit, report, shoot videos, and write compelling content for both online and television. The successful candidate will work a variety of shift, including early mornings, days, evenings, and regular weekend shift and will report directly to the Managing Editor. This position is classified as Group H under the current collective agreement. You will contribute by: The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions, but does not outline all the duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position: Write and produce news content for a variety of newscasts. Line up compelling, dynamic shows each day, creating the best content for both live and server-based newscasts. Produce local news content using video gathered in the field, as well as affiliate, national, and international content. Use production graphics and other visual elements creatively to enhance storytelling. Communicate breaking news and coordinate coverage with the local radio newsroom, resources desk, national news desk, online team, and Edmonton newsroom. Research and develop original and enterprising stories and guest ideas. Report, shoot, write, and edit stories for multiple daily newscasts and for Globalnews.ca. Write, post, promote, update, and curate local, regional, and national content for Globalnews.ca, meeting multiple daily deadlines. Report live on location and in the studio as required. Participate actively in assignment meetings and pitch story ideas. Be a strong advocate, model, and mentor for digital journalism and a video-first workflow. Collaborate closely with staff based in Lethbridge and Edmonton. Support and participate in Global Calgary promotional and community initiatives. Perform other duties as required. Skills and experience you will bring: The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: A degree or diploma in Journalism from a recognized post-secondary institution. At least two years of experience as a television news producer and/or editor, with a demonstrated understanding of innovative production techniques. A minimum of one year of reporting experience with proven on-air presentation skills, including live remotes and unscripted material. Proven shooting and editing skills; anchor experience in a major market is considered an asset. Strong writing skills for both broadcast and online, with excellent research abilities. Editorial judgment and confidence in making decisions under pressure. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment. Familiarity with Canadian Press Style and experience publishing in WordPress are assets. Comfort with evolving technology and workflows. A valid driver’s license with a clear drivers abstract. Strong organizational skills and the ability to make quick and effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
