Description

SUMMARY

Are you looking to grow your digital learning skills in a friendly, purposeful environment? Join the National Extension College (NEC) – a not-for-profit online learning provider with a proud 60-year history of transforming lives through education.
We’re looking for a Digital Learning Systems Coordinator to support and improve our Moodle-based learning platform (learn@nec), making sure it’s accessible, secure, and easy to use for learners and tutors alike. This is a key hands-on role supporting students from all walks of life – including home educators, adult learners, and those returning to education.

You’ll work closely with our editorial, IT, and course development teams to:

  • Set up and maintain Moodle courses, user accounts, and permissions
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide support to staff
  • Upload and format course content, ensuring consistency and accessibility
  • Help train colleagues and contribute to platform improvements
  • Support NEC’s mission to make education accessible to all
  • This role is ideal for someone technically confident, organised, and passionate about online education – especially if you’re looking to build experience in a supportive, collaborative team.

SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience administering a Moodle-based Learning Management System.
  • Confident setting up, configuring, and managing user accounts, roles, courses, and access permissions in Moodle.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical issues efficiently, with a strong understanding of the LMS from a user and admin perspective.
  • Comfortable translating technical concepts into clear guidance for non-specialist colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage both routine tasks and longer-term projects.
  • Basic understanding of accessibility standards and GDPR compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including editorial, IT, and student support.
  • Proficient in using standard office software and digital tools for communication and task management.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Moodle theming or basic HTML/CSS to support simple layout or visual changes.
  • Experience supporting or developing structured online courses, particularly in a UK academic context (e.g. GCSE, A level).
  • Experience creating accessible and engaging online learning experiences using tools like H5P.
  • Understanding of the wider context of online education and learning technologies.
  • Experience writing or updating standard operating procedures or support documentation.
  • Knowledge of integration between Moodle and external tools (e.g. webinar platforms, analytics dashboards).
  • Basic video creation and editing skills to support course development and tutor resources

If you’re excited about using your skills to support students and make online learning better, we’d love to hear from you.
