POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager of the Digital Media Lab provides strategic oversight of the Digital Media Lab and equipment center, ensuring that facilities, resources, and technologies effectively support the academic mission of the Film Studies program. The Manager develops and enforces policies for lab use, manages equipment lifecycles and budgets, and leads the integration of emerging technologies into teaching and learning. This role exercises independent judgment in maintaining academic and industry standards, supervises student staff, and collaborates with faculty to align lab resources with curriculum needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT: Position requires physical capability for light lifting, flexibility, and ease of mobility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Knowledge of computer lab management within a higher education environment.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • Proficiency in screenwriting software (e.g., Celtx, Final Draft).
  • Demonstrated technical expertise with video and audio production equipment, including cameras, lenses, microphones, and related accessories.
  • Proficiency in audio and video editing software, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, Lightroom), and other production programs such as Descript, ProTools, and StreamYard.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Experience with inventory management and maintenance of technology in an academic or professional setting.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Media Production, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in film production or post-production required. Master’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in media lab management, film production, or related field.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required.
